Glass
everywhere, cars tuned over all because of a cell phone. Many teens are getting
in accidents because of the usage of cell phones while driving. As times change cell phones do the
opposite. Cell phones have been the
problem while driving for years. Mostly
the inexperienced drivers should not use their phones while driving because
they cause accidents which lead to injuries, death, and jail time.
Any phone usage while driving causes
accidents which are 25% of all accidents (Edgar Snyder). When these car accidents occur most of them
become injuries. “The first study of drivers texting inside their vehicles
shows that the risk sharply surpasses the dangers of other driving distractions”
(Ritchell). Finding this shocked many
people because people because people felt like they could be in danger of being
injured at anytime. Half a million
people were injured in 2008 from being distracted by drivers using cell phones need
to become totally illegal to use while driving they are too dangerous.
Driving using a phone can also lead
to killing. Almost 6,000 people were
killed due to phone usage while driving (Snyder). Deaths because of phone usage in teens are
the highest because they are inexperienced. Not only are teens killing in car
accidents but adults do it as well for same reasons teens do. Killing can also
lead to the jail time or other charges being brought up. Death can be the
affect of using a phone while driving. “45 percent of Americans said they’ve
been hit or nearly hit by a driver on a cell phone” (Saletan). Most of these people we pedestrians who were
walking. If a full speed car were to hit them head on they would be killed most
likely.
“25 People died and 130 were injured in a
train crash near Los Angeles. The cause, apparently, was a cell phone”
(Saletan). Not only are car crashes killing people using cell phones, but
trains have been involved in phone related crashes as well. Following the death
of a love one someone is always at fault. When someone is at fault they usually
tried with manslaughter. In New Delhi if you talk on the phone you can be given
6 months in jail. This has brought down their accidents due to cell phones
dramatically. This law needs to be used as a law in the U.S because then maybe
people would take phone usage while driving seriously.
Cell phones should not be allowed in
the U.S while driving. Although, “Young people were telling us, ‘It needs to be
more shocking, it needs to be more violent” (Clifford) that is true but at the
same time there are a lot of videos that show graphic pictures and teens still
continue to use their phones. Phones need to be taken out of the youths daily
driving because they cause problems such as injuries, deaths, and even jail
time. Communities need to talk to their states’ representatives and talk to
them about the laws concerning phones while driving.
